CCTV captured the moment a fox pounced on a small dog just seconds after she was let out into her back garden.
Josephine Carroll let her dog, Jack Russell-Pomeranian cross Roxy, out to do her business at 9pm on February 18 at their home in County Tipperary, Ireland.
The footage shows Roxy running onto the grass, before a fox dashes in from the left of the screen and races towards her.
Roxy was lucky to come out unscathed after being attacked by a fox in her owner’s garden in County Tipperary, Ireland
The fox lunges at the dog and then rebounds off the patio before chasing her onto the grass.
Once there, the fox pins down the tiny ‘jackaranian’ and repeatedly bites and claws at her as she struggles to get away.
When it seems that the fox has completely overpowered Roxy, Mrs Carroll’s husband Kenny comes rushing from the house screaming and waving his hands to break the pair up.
Mr Carroll runs towards the fox, slipping on the mud while catching his footing, before the attacker is finally scared off.
His wife posted the clip to social media on February 21. She said: ‘On Friday night our dog Roxy had gone out to do her business when a fox decided that she looked like a nice meaty treat.
‘Luckily Kenny heard the commotion and got out before she was hurt.
‘We cannot believe she didn’t get injured.’
Jackaranians are a crossbreed known for their inquisitive and alert nature. They measure up to 10 inches tall and weigh between six and 14 pounds.
