Four children have been infected with coronavirus after their teacher fell ill.
The youngsters, who all attend the same nursery in Heinsberg, Central Germany, caught the Covid-19 strain of the disease.
According to RTL West one of the teachers at the nursery is also sick, although it is not clear if they have coronavirus.
More than 1,000 people are in domestic quarantine in the town, which has a population of around 40,000.
It follows news that 20 people are affected in the broader North Rhine-Westphalia area.
Just one of those was thought to be from Heinsberg.
Schools and nurseries in the districts are now closed as a precaution, as are public buildings including courts.
As of this morning 50 cases of coronavirus had been confirmed in Germany, the Berlin Spectator reported .
Just five days ago there were no confirmed cases in the country.
So far 83,000 people have been infected with the disease around the world and it is continuing to spread.
More than 2,800 are now believed to have died from the disease.
In the UK 20 people have now been confirmed as infected, with the first patient testing positive having not been abroad last night.
The UK government is looking to bring in emergency laws to keep the country moving.
