‘Tell us where her body is or you will never be free’: Mother-of-five’s family demand partner who killed her while wearing terrifying Halloween mask reveal her final resting place
- Susan Waring, 45, was killed by ‘violent and controlling bully’ Alan Edwards
The grieving family of a mother-of-five murdered by her partner while he wore a Halloween mask have begged him to reveal where he dumped her body.
Susan Waring, 45, was slaughtered by ‘violent and controlling bully’ Alan Edwards after she was last seen shopping with him in Asda on January 29, 2019.
Her family then reported her missing and cruelly pretended he last saw Susan when he claimed she kissed him goodbye and walked out of his flat in Darwen, Lancashire.
Detectives later launched a murder probe despite never finding her body and he was convicted after a trial at Preston Crown Court in 2021 and later jailed for 27 years.
Now, two years on, Susan’s brother Peter Waring has issued a fresh appeal demanding Edwards ‘give her up’ and reveal where her body is if he ever wants to be freed from jail.
Alan Edwards (pictured left), was a ‘violent bully’ who killed 45-year-old Susan Waring (right) and then disposed of her body, which remains missing. He has been jailed for a minimum of 27 years
Detectives believe he used this rubber Halloween skull mask to kill Miss Waring. More than 100 blood spots and traces of Miss Waring’s DNA were discovered on it
He said: ‘I have a feeling Edwards took her to landfill or dumped her in a bin somewhere and she’s ended up in landfill.
‘I’ve never spoken to him and never met him, but if I could speak to him, I’d say just give her up, tell us where she is.
‘He’s in prison now and if he ever wants to see the light of day, he needs to just give her up.
‘He can spend the rest of his life in prison or, if he tells us where she is, 27 years maybe.’
Peter – who previously pleaded to Edwards when he was convicted – has also said although he holds out hope he will reveal where Susan is, he thinks the killer will ‘never give up that information.’
He said: ‘Every day without Susan is strange. The fact that we don’t know where she is, is horrible, and it’s not right.
‘We obviously hold out hope that one day she will be found but in our own minds we don’t think he will ever give up that information.
‘She only lived with him for about a month, maybe two. She was easy prey for him.’

The prosecution argued that the blood splatters showed Edwards struck Ms Waring at close proximity
Edwards preyed on Miss Waring, who was blind in one eye, suffered poor health and had learning difficulties, during their brief two-month relationship.
He was constantly violent and abusive towards her as a search of his flat in Lancashire, revealed evidence of blood throughout the property, which the defendant had redecorated in a bid to cover his tracks.
Police claim he wore a nightmarish rubber Halloween skull mask to killer his vulnerable victim.
The face covering was found to have more than 100 blood spots and traces of Miss Waring’s DNA, with analysis indicating he wore it as he struck her at close proximity.
The last confirmed public sighting of Ms Waring (pictured) was on January 29 when she was shopping with Edwards in Darwen
A mat with Ms Waring’s blood found on it was also among the items recovered by detectives.
Despite denying have any involvement in Ms Waring’s death, ‘violent bully’ Edwards was convicted unanimously by a jury at Preston Crown Court of murder, who took less than 90 minutes to reach their decision.
He was also found guilty of offences against four other women, including causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats to kill.
Describing his sister as ‘gentle’ and a person ‘who would never hurt a fly’ after her killer was s Mr Waring told the court: ‘The last two years have simply been hell for us. A nightmare that has continued to cause us turmoil every day.
‘Alan Edwards clearly manipulated Susan, preyed on her vulnerability and used her as a punchbag. This evil man has denied any wrongdoing and has told constant lies about his offending.’
Susan’s family still mark the anniversary of the day she went missing but also celebrated her life together on May 5, which would have been her 50th birthday.
Peter has also paid tribute to his sister, describing her as a ‘nice person’ and said that ‘it’s a shame that her life has been taken.’
He said: ‘Susan was just not capable of disappearing, it just wouldn’t happen, so maybe someone in Darwen still knows something but has been afraid to come forward.
‘At least if we knew where she was, and we could find her body, we could put flowers down for her every year.
‘Susan was Susan, she had her faults, but she was a nice person, and it’s a shame that her life has been taken from her, and from us.’
At the trial, jurors heard how splatters of Susan’s blood were found on a Halloween mask, which detectives believe was worn by Edwards as he attacked her.
Blood was also found on the walls at his property in Darwen, Lancashire. as well as in a redecorated lounge.
After Edwards was arrested in March 2019, a forensic examination of his flat in Blackburn Road, Darwen, found blood in various locations and on items throughout the premises
Pictures of a mat found at the home of Alan Edwards with the blood of Susan Waring found on it was also used as evidence
Peter said: ‘The police have been absolutely fantastic, and I can’t fault them, they worked really hard.
‘They were determined to get Edwards and they did, and the family liaison officer was always in touch with us and is still there if we need someone to talk to.
‘I don’t know what Edwards’ motive was, I like to think he’s punched her, and it’s gone wrong and he’s ended up killing her, but because of his history it probably wasn’t an accident.’
Earlier this week, DCI Lukmaan Mulla, who led the investigation into Susan’s murder vowed to never give up hope of finding her body.
He said: ‘In all my years of policing this case is the one which has affected me the most.
‘Susan was such a vulnerable woman, and she was subjected to the most horrific abuse by Alan Edwards which culminated in her murder at his hands.
‘Even though he is now in prison Edwards has never admitted killing Susan, instead claiming that she left of her own free will, and while her family have some justice they can never fully grieve while her body remains missing.
‘I will continue to try and get answers from Alan Edwards, but I would also appeal to anyone who may have information about Susan’s disappearance to come forward.’
