A DAD has been charged with murdering his two children, who were stabbed to death in Ilford, East London.
Nadarajah Nithiyakumar, 40, was charged on Friday and appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court.
Police were called to the address on Aldborough Parade on April 26 to reports a man and two children were injured.
The children were found suffering from knife wounds.
Pavinya Nithiyakumar, 19-month-old, was pronounced dead at the scene and three-year-old Nigish Nithiyakumar was rushed to hospital where he died.
Nadarajah Nithiyakumar was arrested on April 29 at a London hospital where he was receiving treatment for stab wounds.
DAD CHARGED WITH MURDER
He was discharged from hospital late on May 7, and charged the next day.
Speaking at the time, neighbour Reshna Begum, a mum-of-two who lives across the road, said she heard "tortured" screams around 5.30pm, saying: "I heard a woman screaming 'Help me'.
"I knew something horrible must have happened, it went on for about 10 minutes."
Ms Begum said she later saw medics carrying a "little body" in a bag outside.
She added: "My heart just sank, it's devastating, horrific. From a mother's perspective I'm still shaken from it, I can't imagine what she feels at the moment."
NEIGHBOURS SHOCK
Another local, retired builder Thomas Dodds, 78, told of his horror at the deaths.
Mr Dodds, who lives in the flats behind the shops, said: "I could tell something awful had happened from the high-pitched screaming.
"There was lots of screaming and panicking and then it just stopped."
Shopkeeper Jyoti Patel, who runs J + N newsagents near the boy’s home, said he would often see the little boy buying sweets with his dad.
She said: "His father would often pick him up from nursery and then come to buy some things from the shop.
"I used to ask the young boy how he was getting on at nursery and he would hide behind the counter because he was very shy."
London’s Air Ambulance was sent to the stabbings along with three ambulance crews, two medics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and two incident response officers.
