Thousands of holidaymakers trying to board the Eurostar have faced travel chaos this afternoon as services stopped, causing hours of delay and confusion.
A failure of the electrical supply between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International blocked all lines between the stations, meaning all high-speed services were forced to stop.
The 12.31pm service to Paris was the first train affected, causing an enormous backlog of travellers in the St Pancras waiting room, while the 4.01pm service was cancelled.
By 4.30pm, some Eurostar services began to pull away from the London station although travellers were told only to travel if necessary and that they could change their tickets at the station.
Frustrated passengers slammed the train company for poor communication, with one saying that it ‘didn’t need to be in iambic pentameter’ while others shared images of packed out waiting rooms.

Services were delayed because of an electrical fault and points failure in Kent which meant trains could not run
The London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord service runs to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet and then crosses the channel through the undersea tunnel, before arriving at Calais in France.
A fault was identified with the electrical supply in Kent on Saturday and Network Rail carried out some repairs overnight.
The repair work was not completed and further intervention is planned for this evening. A second fault with a set of points was discovered on Sunday, meaning trains could not run between Ashford and Ebbsfleet.
Social media users complained of the heat while waiting in long lines during the delays and slammed a lack of communication from the train company
Frustrated travellers took to Twitter to share photos of the long lines as passengers struggled to deal with the heat in the terminal.
Stranded holiday makers slammed a lack of communication from Eurostar as they were left confused about whether services would be running.
One described announcements in the station as ‘a joke’ and another said the care of passengers was ‘abysmal’ as the old and young ‘faded in the heat’.
