An innocent bystander was wounded during a shootout at a Walmart store in Baton Rouge, La. — just days after a massacre at the store’s location in El Paso.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux told reporters at the scene Tuesday that one of the shooters was in custody and the other at large. The bystander was rushed by private car to Baton Rouge General Hospital and was listed in fair condition, according to FOX44-TV.
Initial reports were of an active shooter at the store, sending police from various departments swarming to the giant retailer around noon.
The incident follows two mass shootings this weekend — the El Paso Walmart incident that left 22 dead and another in Dayton, Ohio, early Saturday that took nine lives.
Once at the scene, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office told WAFB-TV that there was not an active shooter situation, “but the scene is active.”
WBRZ-TV reported that witnesses saw police taking an individual into custody, and that officers were also checking other Walmart stores in the area.
Baton Rouge police and sheriff’s officials would not comment.
