A COUPLE have emigrated to Australia because the UK’s cold weather brings their son out in a painful rash.

Martin and Rebecca Mitchell made the drastic move after ten-year-old Finley’s skin kept flaring up in red blotches.

She said: “It couldn’t cope with the British winter.

“He couldn’t walk outside in freezing conditions without his body growing these weird bumps.

“His face used to look like it was burning, and I couldn’t bare looking at him in so much pain.

“He once ate an ice lolly and his face swelled so badly it looked like he had huge fish lips.”

Rebecca, 36, and Martin, 39, from Four Oaks in Birmingham, made the massive decision to move Down Under to Queensland six months ago.

Since then, Finley’s breakouts have lessened and he no longer takes drugs for the condition — called cold urticaria.

Freelance photographer Rebecca said: “I knew emigrating to a warmer climate was best for us.

“Even when we first moved here, it was winter so we kept Finley away from cold objects.

“Cold water still causes hives but his body has got so much better in the past six months.

“In England he’d miss playtime, and wouldn’t be able to socialise with friends.

“But he’s joined a local football club and is settling in so well.”

Long-term urticaria affects up to five in every 1,000 people in England.

Finley developed the condition after a swine flu vaccination in 2009.

Rebecca said: “Finley had the jab due to his asthma and I thought absolutely nothing of it.

“But it turns out one in 1,000 children can develop hives.

“He was on constant medication in the UK, whereas now he’s drug free.

“The change in him is just amazing.”
