‘I’ll be staying sober then!’ Blur fans are left outraged at Wembley gig’s bar prices with just FOUR cans of Budweiser being sold for £27.50
- Fans of Blur were left shocked by the steep prices of drinks at Wembley stadium
- Most gig venues will not allow fans to bring in their own drinks, including water
- Concert-goers have claimed they would rather stay sober than pay the prices
Blur fans were left astounded by the rising price of drinks at Wembley stadium, as the band united to perform their first major gig in eight years.
The band’s frontman Damon Albarn said the band have been waiting all their lives to play Wembley at the first of two gigs at the stadium.
With six number one albums in the UK, two number one singles and multiple world tours, it may come as a shock to learn that Blur has never headlined the stadium before.
But the Britpop survivors got their comeuppance at the weekend and played to 140,000 across two nights in the city where they first began.
And years later, fans were amazed at the triumphant performance, but not so much at the startling drink prices at the stadium.
A concert-goer shared the prices at Wembley stadium during Blur’s headline performance at the venue
The venue advertised a deal at the concert where fans could buy four waters for £10
The account also shared the prices of spirits at the concert, with a large rum and coke costing £13
The Glastonbury account @GlastoTopTips posted the tweet to defend their own event’s drink prices – which has received backlash in the past.
The festival veteran twitter shared a series of drink prices to the platform, which included: 4 waters for £10, four cans for £27.50 and £13 for a large rum and coke.
Fans of the 90s indie-rock legends chimed in with their opinions on the deals, with some saying they’d rather stay sober than pay the striking prices.
One user commented: ‘Yep. I paid £12.90 for a beer and an appalling draft Diet Coke.’
While another said: ‘A mere £7.95 for a pint of Camden Pale Ale.’
Another concert-goer @will_1889 posted the steep prices, to which one person replied jokingly asking if the venue take, the buy-now pay-later app, Klarna.
One user, astounded by the rising drink prices, said: ‘The price of drinks at these venues are extortionate. Why do people buy them? If you refuse to pay the price the cost should come down!!’
Some users defended the prices, one said: ‘That’s actually very reasonable for a big London event – was only £7 a pint at Olympic Stadium seeing The Weeknd on Friday too.’
Another commenting: ‘Yeah but one was £7.95 so not a bad deal really,’ another agreeing: ‘I don’t actually think this was bad, my local cinema is £8 for a diet Coke plus they told you to take a bottle of water and it was free refills.’
One user commented saying: ‘£2.50 for a bottle of water isn’t that bad for stadium pricing.’
To which the account responded: ‘It was £4 for a single bottle – reduced to £2.50 a bottle if you bought 4. Also should point out there are free refills!’
More fans flocked to Twitter to express their dismay towards the prices. Mail Online has contacted the venue for comment.
