A 19-month-old girl has died following a horror crash that also claimed the life of a woman in her 40s – as the youngster’s family pay tribute to their ‘beautiful baby’.
Winnie Campbell was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a critical condition following the collision between a blue Mini and a grey Fiat 500X at around 6.20pm on Saturday.
Heroic bystanders, including an off-duty paramedic and off-duty firefighter, performed CPR on Winnie until emergency crews arrived.
But the 19-month-old infant, a passenger in the Fiat, died in hospital on Monday.
The driver of the Mini, mother-of-four and grandmother-of-one Rachel Broadhurst, died at the scene on the A518 New Trench Road between Telford and Newport, Shropshire.
A man and woman in the Fiat, thought to be Winnie’s parents, were left trapped inside and were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement today, Winnie’s family said: ‘Winnie was always such a happy baby girl, who loved to dance, jump and play.
‘Without her our family now has a huge hole that will never again be filled and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure to love her.
‘She is loved so much and will always be our beautiful baby girl. We respectfully request that we are allowed to grieve in private as a family at this difficult time.’
Winnie’s mother, Ashleigh Jade Campbell, has also posted a heartbreaking tribute on her Facebook, saying: ‘Can’t remember life before you, couldn’t imagine life without you…
