Yellowjackets Season 2 official trailer
The adult version of schizophrenic survivor Lottie Matthews (played by Simone Kessell) has finally appeared after kidnapping Natalie Scatorccio (Juliette Lewis) at the end of Yellowjackets’ gripping first season. In last week’s premiere on Showtime in the US and Paramount+ in the UK, fans discovered she has been running her own cult-like retreat, complete with some bizarre rituals.
Kessell has now opened up on Lottie’s strange behaviour in the season premiere, including burying a member of her compound alive.
Back in the forest, the teenage Lottie (Courtney Eaton) began having strange visions which caused a rift among the other girls.
30 years later, the survivor is now a suspicious spiritual leader who enjoys the finer things in life whilst ostensibly helping her find peace.
One of her methods includes burying a naked man alive, which shocked both Natalie and the show’s own cult of fans last week.
“Do you think I’m upstaged by the penis?” Kessell joked in a recent interview.
“Somebody else on the cast said to me, ‘What happens at your community, at your compound?’
“And I was like, ‘Look, it’s just one of the many treatments we offer.’
“That’s such a fun scene. It leads into episode two where we really get an idea of the many therapies you can partake of in Lottie’s community.”
Kessell insists the burial was simply just one of many methods of therapy Lottie offers in her community.
However, Natalie clearly believes there’s something more sinister at play, and will be determined to expose the truth in this week’s instalment.
For now, though, there’ll be no more answers as to why exactly one of Lottie’s followers enjoyed an early grave in the season premiere.
“No, we move on from him,” she confirmed when Deadline pressed for more.

Kessell also revealed she completely immersed herself in the role of spiritual leader and even embraced Lottie’s so-called healing powers when she interacted with the cast and crew.
“I would have extras come up and shake my hand or hold me or hug me,” she recalled.
“I’m gonna tell you this, I went with it. I would hug them back.
“And then at one point, our showrunner went, ‘well, Simone, if acting doesn’t work out, I think you could have your own cult.’”
Thankfully, Kessell maintained: “But we don’t go too hippy-dippy. These are speeches and, I guess sermons really, that she gives about how to work through past pain and trauma.”
Despite the actress’s reassurance, there still seems to be something strange happening behind the scenes at Lottie’s compound.
Will Natalie uncover the truth? Or will she find herself being lured in by Lottie’s uncanny powers of persuasion?
Yellowjackets season 2 continues Fridays on Paramount+ in the UK and Sundays on Showtime in the USA.
