This year we have seen the chefs specifically tasked with honouring children’s fantasy fiction.

When is the Great British Menu 2020 next on TV?

The Great British Menu is on tonight (May, 6) at 8pm on BBC Two.

In line with this year's theme being children's literature, we will see some creative culinary skills in honour of this.

Get ready to see Harry Potter style feasts, Owl and the Pussycat breakfasts and Beatrix Potter piglets!

Only two of the contesting chefs will proceed onto Friday’s judging and have a chance to represent the south west of England at the regional finals.

Who are the Great British Menu judges and presenter?

The judges of the series are Irish restaurateur Oliver Peyton, restaurateur Andi Oliver and food critic Matthew Fort.

Andi Oliver replaced Prue Leith as a judge after she joined the revamped version of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 in 2017.

Both Matthew and Oliver were part of the original line-up when the show was first created back in 2006.

It’s not just up to the three judges, however, as each week a guest judge will be joining them to help select the best dishes from each region in the Friday regional final.

Presenter and comedian Susan Calman has featured in this year’s tougher competition, which involves an extra chef to beat and someone leaving daily during the heats.

New host Susan told whatsontv:  "I’ve watched every series, scored every dish, disagreed with the judges from my sofa – and now I’m hosting it!"

How does the Great British Menu work?

Each competitor is scored on their dishes, with the chef with the highest score making the final.

The winner from each region will then battle to see if their dish could make the Great British menu.

Winning dishes are awarded for starter, fish course, main course, and dessert.

One cook is then crowned Champion of Champions – voted for by diners at a final banquet.
