When Tamera Mowry-Housley announced her exit from The Real in July 2020, it was pretty shocking. Even so, there was no bad blood behind the seemingly sudden decision. Mowry-Housley explained via Instagram that she’s “proud” of everything she’s accomplished as a co-host on The Real, including winning NAACP Image Awards and an Emmy Award. The actress acknowledged that “all good things come to an end” and thanked her former co-hosts for “supporting” and “loving all of” her. The Sister, Sister alum said that she looks “forward to spending more time with [her] family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of [her] life.”
When Mowry-Housley initially announced her departure from The Real, she didn’t specify which “amazing new opportunities” she was pursuing, but she did mention that she did two Hallmark movies during a December 2020 E! interview and that she has three more on the way. Even though she has a renewed focus on acting following The Real, she told E! that her post-talk show life can be summed up with one word: “balanced.” She added, “I love being with my family. As you know, I have two children. I love to act.” And she still has plenty of love for The Real, her former co-workers, and even her replacement, Garcelle Beauvais.
Tamera Mowry-Housley has no hard feelings about The Real
In December 2020, Tamera Mowry-Housley returned to The Real for her first appearance as a guest. Good Housekeeping reported that she said, “I’m excited to be here. Behind the scenes I’ve been trying to get this together, so I’m really happy that I’m here today.” As much as Mowry-Housley loved doing the show, she knew it was the right the right move for her to exit for a while. She told ET, “I was already thinking about moving on to my next chapter. I knew it since the beginning of Season 6 that I was going to [leave].”
She hosted the show for seven years but ultimately missed her home life in addition to being an actress. Mowry-Housley remarked, “I hadn’t acted in seven years and it was something that just ignited within me. That fire started to burn again.”
Clearly, she has nothing but love for the friends she’s made at The Real, but she also has high praise for Garcelle Beauvais, who joined the show after she left, telling HollywoodLife, “I think she’s fantastic.” Specifically, she gushed, “She’s been nothing but kind to me and my family. I wish the girls the best.” Even though Mowry-Housley was confident in her decision to leave The Real, she got extra reinforcement from her kids, who prefer her new schedule. All in all, it seems to be a win for everyone, and Mowry-Housley has found balance in this new era.
