HBO sci-fi series Westworld will be closing its gates for another season this evening (Sunday, May 3). The season three finale will be airing on HBO in America at 9pm Eastern Standard Time. Sky Atlantic will be simulcasting the finale with the US, which means the last episode will be broadcast in the UK on Monday, May 4 at 2am BST and repeated at 9pm if you missed the early morning screening.
Will there be another series of Westworld?
Yes, is the simple answer after HBO announced the sci-fi epic would be returning for another outing.
In an announcement on April 22, 2020, HBO executive Casey Bloys said: “From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.”
Bloys added: “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

When will Westworld season 4 be released?
There’s generally been an 18-month gap between seasons of Westworld with the first-ever outing premiering in 2016.
Season two debuted in 2018 and the latest outing hit screens in March 2020, so going by this the fourth cycle would be coming out in 2022.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has plunged the future of film and television production into uncertainty after lockdown brought a swift halt to all forthcoming releases.
Therefore, it’s unclear when season four of Westworld will be coming out but it could potentially be later than 2022.
Interestingly, Bloys previously told Variety there could be more time in between seasons.
He explained: “As Jonah and Lisa will tell you, I will always say, ‘Can we get it sooner?’
“As shows get bigger and more complicated, I think more time between seasons is probably becoming more of the norm.”
This suggests, there could be even more of a gap going forward between seasons.
Bloys also suggested a season five could potentially be on the cards, telling The Wrap: “We have deals with them for a potential fourth and fifth season.”
Season four could be shorter with eight episodes like the third outing – the first two seasons both consisted of 10 episodes.
Regardless of the episode count, season four will be airing on a weekly basis and will be simulcast in the US and the UK.
HBO has started simulcasting its biggest shows in the UK on Sky Atlantic following the intense popularity of Game of Thrones.
Other shows which have been aired on both sides of the Atlantic since then have included Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies.

What will happen in Westworld season 4?
Season four will immerse viewers once more in the robot rebellion with artificial intelligence taking the next step towards dominance.
But any plot points will be dependent on how season three concludes, and knowing Westworld, there are likely to be more twists and turns to keep viewers entertained.
However, fans can expect more of the same with the hosts now building new lives for themselves outside of the parks.
The themes of free will and whether its simply an illusion will continue to play out.
Westworld season 3 concludes on HBO tonight and Sky Atlantic tomorrow at 2am and 9pm
