WATCHMEN answered the question on everyone’s lips in its latest episode.

Viewers have been left scratching their heads by the superhero drama’s Adrian Veidt (Jeremy Irons) side plot.

Last week, it was confirmed that the dapper gent is indeed the infamous Ozymandias in episode 3, She Was Killed By Space Junk.

Episode 4, If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own, delves deeper into the character’s mysterious estate, ultimately revealing that he is incarcerated and was desperately attempting to escape.

So far Adrian has been surrounded exclusively by clones of his Butler Mr Phillips (Tom Mison) and maid Ms Crookshanks (Sara Vickers), along with the mysterious Game Warden, who seems determined to thwart him at every turn.

Adrian claims he has been held captive for four years and first mistook his gilded cage for ‘paradise,’ only for Cabin Fever to kick in.

However, this is no ordinary lock up – there are various hints that the former playboy is in fact being held on a different planet.

At first glance, the country manor full of horses, greenery and sumptuous architecture looks straight out of the UK.

However, Adrian begins to hypothesise that he is surrounded by some kind of invisible barrier and even takes to catapulting the corpses of his dead assistant into the sky to try and prove as much.

This isn’t just paranoia talking – in episode 1 Doctor Manhattan is seen on Mars destroying a structure that bears a striking resemblance to Ozymandias’ castle.

Does this mean the Doc could be the jailer thwarting Adrian’s escape attempts?

What’s more, Adrian takes it upon himself to create an environmental suit to withstand extreme temperatures, testing it on an unfortunate Mr Phillips.

Perhaps this will serve as a makeshift space suit and Adrian is fully aware that he’s not on Earth.

Even the scene transitions pan out by flying up to the moon, hinting at some kind of galactic shift.

If Watchmen has taught us anything it’s that first appearances aren’t to be trusted, so it’s unlikely we’ll find out where Adrian until he makes a more concerted escape attempt.

Watchmen airs Mondays on Sky Atlantic and is available to stream on NOW TV.
