THIS is the moment a BBC presenter saved a bird's life minutes before a live broadcast.

Newsreader Alex Lovell was pictured climbing up a ladder onto a roof in a video that was circulated on social media.

Alex – who anchors BBC Points West – was outside the studio for BBC Bristol and as she climbed the ladder she joked: "Disclaimer, I won’t sue anybody."

Once on the studio's roof, she picked her way across and over gutter pipes to the corner where a bird could be heard screeching.

Some wings could be seen flapping as Alex tried to get hold of it and set it free.

After a couple of seconds, she managed to get it, turn and set it free as it then flapped its wings and flew off.

The successful rescue caused those watching to give Alex a round of applause.

Fellow BBC journalist Harriet Robinson shared the video and captioned it: "@alexlovelltv casually saving a baby bird from the BBC Bristol roof before going on air."

The video received lots of comments, with one person writing: "What a treasure she is. So glad she’s ours."

Another added: "She could be, the nicest person in TV."
