The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s science fiction series for HBO Max, Raised by Wolves, was released on August 5.
Vikings star Travis Fimmel will return to television for the first time after leaving the History series in 2017 when the new sci-fi project debuts on September 3 on the streaming service.
Scott serves as co-creator and executive producer alongside writer Aaron Guzikowski for the brand new series, which treated viewers to a first-look at the new show’s surreal sci-fi concepts.
Travis Fimmel is set to play Marcus, a human who arrives on a colonised planet to discover two androids, Mother (played by Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) are calling the shots.
Throughout the trailer, Mother tells a group of humans the story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf.
However, dialogue from Marcus seems to suggest the androids are hiding sinister intent which will gradually be revealed over the course of the series.
Alongside the new trailer, a cryptic synopsis was also released: “Mother was programmed to protect everyone after Earth had been destroyed. When the big bad wolf shows up, she is the one we must trust.”
Director of The Martian and Gladiator, Ridley Scott, is confirmed to direct the first two episodes of Raised by Wolves, which will comprise ten episodes in total.
HBO Max’s new series for 2020 will mark the filmmaker’s television debut, whose last release All the Money in the World hit cinemas in 2017.
The theme of malfunctioning androids running amok will also be familiar to fans of Scott’s Alien franchise, though there appears to be no connection.
Meanwhile, writer for the series Aaron Guzikowski is best known for his work on the script for Denis Villeneuve’s 2013 thriller, Prisoners.
Guzikowski also created the SundanceTV drama series The Red Road, starring Aquaman and Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa.

HBO Max also said of the new series: “Raised by Wolves centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet.
“As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.”
Following the release of the series’ first trailer, Vikings fans were thrilled to see the History star back on screens for a new role.
One fan commented: “King Ragnar is back everyone, I’m so glad to see Travis Fimmel back in action.”
Away from Vikings, Fimmel is known for taking on roles in smaller films such as Lean on Pete and Finding Steve McQueen, though he also led the cast of 2016’s video game blockbuster Warcraft.
Fimmel also joined the cast of upcoming comedy film El Tonto, the directorial debut of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day.
Unfortunately, Raised by Wolves currently does not have a UK broadcaster so it is unknown when the series will be made available to international audiences.
Raised by Wolves will be released September 3 on HBO Max. Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
