Netflix released the first teaser for The Witcher at the San Diego Comic-Con in July and the first full trailer in October. Since then, fans of the books and video games have been eagerly waiting for it to be on the streaming service and on Friday, December 20, the season was available to watch. So is there going to be another season?
This new series is based on the Polish novels by Andrzej Sapkowski where monster hunter Geralt (played by Henry Cavill) struggles to cope with being surrounded by people often more wicked than the beasts he catches.
Sapkowski worked as a creative consultant on the show and was happy to see his books being brought to life.
In a statement, he said: “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.
“I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Will there be another series of The Witcher?
Thankfully, there will be a second series of The Witcher.
Showrunner Lauren S Hissrich confirmed the fantasy series will return after The Witcher was renewed for another season on November 13, a whole month before the show even started.
Taking to Twitter, she said: “I’m so thrilled to announce: Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures…in Season Two.
“I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us.”
At the moment, no official release date has been announced for season two.
But Variety reported there will be eight episodes – much like series one – and filming will begin in London, early 2020 with a planned debut for 2021.
And as filming has not yet begun, there currently is no trailer with new footage from the upcoming season.
So who is going to be in the cast of The Witcher series two?

Cavill and actresses Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennifer, and Freya Allan, who plays Geralt’s adoptive daughter Ciri, have already been confirmed to take part in the next eight episodes.
However, no more cast members have been announced to be rejoining the show for 2021 just yet.
Despite The Witcher being based on a book series, executive producer Tomek Baginski told Comicbook.com the show is not a direct adaptation.
He said: “Actually the books were a lot more source material than we could fit into eight episodes.
“So we have to really be very, very careful with choosing which stories we want to tell.”

But we could be seeing a lot more of Geralt over the next few years as showrunner Hissrich has said there is enough material for seven seasons.
Talking to SFX prior to Netflix’s announcement of another series, she said: “Second season? I’ve [got plans] for seven seasons!
“We don’t have a second season yet – God willing we will – but right now it’s just about, ‘How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’
“The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.”
The Witcher season 1 is now available on Netflix.
