John Legend joined The Voice for Season 16. He had to learn a few lessons along the way and he came out on top. Legend has since revealed what it was like to work with his winner and the hardest thing about coaching. Here is everything you need to know.
Winner, Maelyn Jarmon said John Legend was easy to talk to
Maelyn Jarmon won Season 16 of The Voice proving that Legend is a great addition to the show. She talked about what it was like working with him.
“I went in with a very professional mindset and he is so relaxed and easy to talk to. I think he could be friends with anybody. But I think also, so far as working on music together, we were right eye-to-eye,” Jarmon said according to E! News.
Legend also talked about why it was a great experience working with Jarmon. “I just love her work ethic, her attention to detail,” he said. “She goes into every song with an actual strategy and a plan for how to execute a song and she has the wherewithal to be able to actually do it. It makes it very, very easy for a coach. I can give her a few notes, but she would be good no matter who was her coach because she has that level of excellence already in her.”
Legend said losing people is the hardest part of coaching
It’s inevitable that coaches are going to lose people throughout the season. Legend said that didn’t really make it easier to say goodbye.
“It’s heartbreaking when you lose people that you invest a lot of time into and you see how heartbreaking it is for them,” Legend told Country Living. “And obviously it’s even worse for them than it is for us, but it’s hard to go through that process and feel the agony of going home for so many people.”
He still believes working with new artists is the best thing about taking the gig. “I was excited about mentoring new artists and I was excited about helping them be the best versions of themselves they can be,” he said.
Legend will return for Season 17
The EGOT winner will be back for a second season to prove his first win wasn’t just a fluke. He will be going up against Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani.
This news came after the announcement that Adam Levine won’t be returning for Season 17 unlike what was previously announced. Levine made a post saying goodbye to the show on Instagram. He also tweeted a link to it. Legend responded to it on Twitter and wrote, “We’ll miss you, brother.”
It should be interesting to see what the dynamic between the coaches will be like without Levine next season. Legend did an awesome job despite having to say goodbye to his team members, but fans will see how he’ll deal with it next season after knowing what he’s in for.
