After June (played by Elizabeth Moss) successfully liberated dozens of Marthas and over 50 children from Gilead she vowed to never return. The latest instalment of The Handmaid’s Tale was an emotional one as she too finally made it to Canada. Now, it seems she is plotting to take down Gilead once and for all.

With season four well underway, fans have finally received the reunion episode they’ve been waiting for.

In the most recent episode, titled Vows, fans saw a dazed June adamant on staying in Chicago to find Janine (Madeline Brewer).

However, Moira (Samira Wiley) desperately pleaded with her to sneak onto the rescue ship which was only permitted for volunteers and aid resources.

Once convinced, June hid but it wasn’t until the ship had sailed that Moira learned there would be an inspection checkpoint carried out by authorities.

Moira confessed to fellow aid worker Oona (Zawe Ashton) who was shocked and debated with the group whether or not to hand June into the authorities, as they’d be banned from delivering war aid resources if caught.

As the group debated June’s fate, she abruptly offered to hand herself in, which Oona agreed with.

With the ship nearing the checkpoint a distraught Moira pleaded to Oona one more time and she thankfully changer her mind.

Oona ordered the other volunteers to find June a humanitarian vest and make a fake ID.

While this was happening, viewers were offered flashbacks of June’s life before Gilead.

As flatmates, June and Moira were discussing her engagement plans to marry Luke (O.T. Fagbenle), with Moira initially opposed to the idea, reminding June that Luke cheated on his ex wife who couldn’t get pregnant.

Fans also saw June and Luke discuss their vows as they moved in together, to which June shared her infertility fears and asked Luke what would happen to them if they couldn’t conceive.

Luke insisted that he’d changed and reassured June that he would stick to his vows no matter what, which foreshadowed their impending reunion.

Throughout the flashbacks, fans saw snippets of June announcing her pregnancy to Luke and both of them raising Hannah (Jordana Blake) as she grows up in each scene.

Back on the ship June attempted to escape using a lifeboat, as she was desperate to go back to Gilead and rescue Hannah.

But Moira reminded her that Gilead will punish her and further separate her from her daughter.

As the ship pulled into the dock, June was finally reunited with Luke who went down into the cabin to meet her. June apologised for leaving Hannah behind but they emerged together on Canadian soil.

But the story doesn’t end there as June is now set on revenge. In the trailer for episode seven, Home, she is sworn into the country by the government, holds her baby Nicole and plans her next steps.

Viewers can hear June state those in Gilead “will hurt” for the fan they caused, it looks likely she will start a war.

Will June finally face her oppressors and bring down Gilead?

With that being said, the makers of the show always keep fans on the edge of their seats but we’re eager to see Gilead squirm once they hear the handmaid is free.
