It has been used for three series of the hit Netflix drama, doubling as the royal residence at Windsor. When Olivia Colman and company filmed the third season they were accompanied by an army of backroom staff including their own caterers. But there are no airs and graces with Britain’s new Queen of the show and she invited staff to lunch every day. Nicola Wheeler, general manager at the castle, said: “We don’t have a canteen, so we either bring our own or use the tea room.
“The food they put on for these stars was fantastic. Everything was so delicious.
“They had big casseroles, vegetarian options and best of all, a choice of yummy puddings. The whole staff were invited every day. They are all so nice and down to earth, but it is a bit strange going on your lunch break and sitting down with an Oscar winner.”
Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire is home to the Duke of Rutland’s family. It has also appeared in Young Victoria, The Da Vinci Code and Victoria And Abdul.
Nicola says they hope the crew will return for the fourth series of The Crown, adding: “Everyone here is a huge fan, it’s fun watching the places where we work. And we hope they’ll bring the caterers back with them.”
