‘The Beast’, Mark Labbett, discusses his weight loss

Mark “The Beast” Labbett opened up about his future on The Chase as he explained episodes were being “dropped”.

Mark made his The Chase debut in the very first episode and, like his co-stars, has built up a big following of fans.

Talking about the future of the ITV show, he stated: “We film three shows a day, normally four days a week.

“We do 200 and odd shows a year but it’s dropped to 160 next year.”

Speaking to the Daily Star, he continued: “We filmed so much during the latter part of lockdown they’ve got loads so we’re getting to the point there’s too many.”

Mark went on to explain that BBC quiz show Pointless has to stop production at one point because they had filmed so many episodes in advance.

“They had to shut down for a year once because they had so much in the can,” he revealed.

The 57-year-old recently opened up about his weight loss following a type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

Speaking on GB News last month, Mark explained how he has lost his appetite since losing weight.

When asked how he lost so much weight, the quizzer replied: “It was a combination of so many things. Covid etc. I had it a couple of times, which suppressed the appetite.

“My wife was working at the local hospital, which meant I was looking after our son and you suddenly realise how tough it is. I’m just not that hungry anymore.”

Mark went on to reveal how he’d love to take part in BBC favourite Strictly Come Dancing.

“Now I’m a lot lighter and fitter I’d love to do it, but obviously that’s up to the powers that be,” he explained.

Appearing alongside him, his wife Hayley Palmer said he would be perfect for the series.

She remarked: “I think he’d be good at that because I used to be a dancer so I’d be like, ‘Right, this is what you need to do. This is your homework.'”

“We’ve set ourselves a little goal,” Mark added, continuing: “I’d like to get on Strictly and she’d like to get on Dancing on Ice.

“I can’t do Dancing on Ice because my ankle is far too inflexible, they tested me last year. But, you know, Strictly will be fine.”

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
