THE Big Bang Theory bosses have revealed they resorted to microchipping props to prevent the sitcom's set getting raided.

The hit CBS series came to an end after 12 seasons in May last year, with fans bidding farewell to Sheldon and Co as well as their apartments.

However, if anyone had hopes of finding keepsakes from the set online to buy they have been dashed by set designer Ann Shea.

She told Metro.co.uk how the cast were even banned from taking mementos from the show let alone anyone else sneakily taking a prop.

She explained: "Warner Brothers was so strict, normally heads of department would have access to the stage so we can go work on the weekends, but they closed the stages down months in advance on the weekend.

"And they microchipped every single item on all of the sets and made sure they could track it.

"We were instructed to give everything we had for archives and so we did. It took months and months of packing and logging."

However, thoughtful Ann revealed she made hundreds of replica door numbers to give to the cast and crew when the show ended.

Last week, the show's production designer John Shaffner revealed bosses spent a staggering $60k (£49k) on set decorations, particularly flowers, for the series finale scenes at the Nobel Prize.

He explained to Metro Online: "The decor has always been the tradition of the Nobel Prize.

"There’s a huge floral display that wraps around all behind where the orchestra would play and in front of where the choir would sing.

"I designed a version of the florals and worked with the florist on this. She came in with her team and so we created a massive blanket of flowers and columns and things.

"The flower budget on that surpassed the grandest wedding you can imagine. It was somewhere around $60,000 for the flowers."
