Succession Season 4 mid-season trailer
WARNING: This article contains spoilers for season four of Succession.
Although Logan Roy’s (played by Brian Cox) health had been on a downward spiral since the series premiere, his unexpected death sent shock waves among viewers. The showrunner of HBO’s acclaimed family drama Succession exposed the real reason Logan’s death took place off camera.
When Succession first premiered in 2018, viewers were thrown into the complicated dynamics of the Roy family.
Thousands remained enthralled as Logan’s adult children, Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook), Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) and Roman Roy (Keiran Culkin) fought to succeed his billion-dollar media company Waystar Royco.
As season four was confirmed to be the final instalment, many fans were concerned Logan was fighting a losing battle with mortality.
However, his fatal cardiac arrest during the episode titled Connor’s Wedding portrayed the reality of sudden tragedies in the current times.
While Connor Roy (Alan Ruck), Kendall, Roman and Shiv were on a boat, they learned Logan became short of breath on his Waystar Royco plane.
Along with his executive team and Shiv’s estranged husband, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), Logan was on his way to Sweden to try and salvage the GoJo deal.
During the flight, the businessman struggled to breathe, but by the time Tom was able to get his family on the phone, the flight crew were performing CPR.
Tom held the phone to Logan’s ear, Roman told his father: “You’re a good man, you’re a good dad, you did a good job.”

Logan’s death was pronounced upon the plane’s landing, and Kendall asked his father’s confidante: “Is he gone, Frank? Is he gone?”
Frank Vernon (Peter Friedman) responded: “I don’t want to bulls**t you Ken, I think he went. I think he’s gone.”
Speaking on Logan’s death, showrunner Jesse Armstrong revealed: “We didn’t really have a death scene for Logan and that was obviously intentional.
“We wanted to capture a feeling of death that people experience in the modern era of separation of communication over phone and email.”

As his children said goodbye, Kendall told Logan although he couldn’t forgive his father, he does love him.
Kendall then gave Shiv an opportunity to speak to their father. Even though he had seemingly already passed, she also told Logan she loves him.
Shiv and Kendall then updated Connor who said: “I never got the chance to make him proud of me.”
As a result, Connor had no choice but to cancel the wedding but he and Willa Ferreyra (Justine Lupe) exchanged vows in the intimate ceremony.
After the plane landed, Shiv released a statement to the press and informed them Waystar Royco would soon be meeting to decide the leadership for the company.
However, news of Logan’s death was leaked before the planned official statement and it had catastrophic effects on the stock market.
As well as the fight for succession, the Roy family must also try to figure out who was behind the leak.
Fans have already suggested interim CEO Geri Kellman (J Smith Cameron) or if the lackadaisical Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun) could have blurted out the news.
Succession season 4 continues Sundays on HBO in the USA and on Now TV in the UK.
