The Strictly Come Dancing 2022 finale will take place tonight with the remaining four contestants ready to dance their hearts out. As they perform three dances each, their main focus is to hopefully lift the Glitterball Trophy after 12 gruelling weeks of training. However, things may not turn out as positive for Helen Skelton as she suffered a devastating blow just hours before the live show.
Over the weeks, Helen has gone from strength to strength with her dancing and finding her confidence on the dance floor.
She has managed to impress the judges week after week, and even topped the leaderboard a couple of times with partner Gorka Marquez.
Tonight Helen and Gorka will dance the Jive to Tightrope by Janelle Monáe, their Couple’s Choice to Mein Herr by Liza Minnelli (from Cabaret) and a show dance to Shine by Emeli Sandé.
However, Helen’s chances of lifting the Glitterball Trophy could have just slipped out of reach as she was dealt a devastating blow just hours until the live final.
Hamza looks set to take home the Glitterball as bookmakers Ladbrokes release their final odds ahead of the show.
Hamza’s odds of winning are 2/5, with Helen following closely behind at 2/1. Molly Rainford’s odds look set at 40/1, leaving Fleur East last with 66/1.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Fleur entered Strictly as one of the frontrunners to go all the way, but the latest odds tell a completely different story as she’ll head into tonight’s finale as the rank outsider.”
Sam Boswell of BetVictor also commented: “Helen Skelton is close behind Hamza, as she comes in at 6/4. Helen and Gorka’s favourite dance of the series will be their iconic Couple’s Choice to Mein Herr by Liza Minnelli (from Cabaret).
Helen could pose a threat to Hamza if the odds are anything to go by, leaving the final set to be a tough call.
The Countryfile star recently opened up about her chances of winning the series and broke down in tears looking back through her journey.
Joining It Takes Two presenter Rylan Clark, she explained: “We would love to lift that trophy but I feel like we’ve already won it.
“We’ve had such an adventure, and I’ve said it before, you’re [Gorka] a credit to the show and a credit to your family.
“We’ve had the highs, the lows and everything in between and this is just a reminder for us to feel the fear and do it anyway.
“Stretch yourself, test yourself and see what happens, if you surround yourself with good people, wonderful things happen.”
Fleur has been the only contestant throughout the series to receive a 10 from Craig Revel Horwood, scoring the perfect 40.
Helen added: “I would love to get a 40. But at the same time, wholeheartedly, I feel like we’ve had our 40, do you know what I mean?
“I take on board what the judges say and I have a lot of respect for all of them.”
Throughout her time on the show, Helen has managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off, as well as Hamza.
However, Fleur and Molly have both had their fair share of having to perform again in the dance-off, both being saved by the judges multiple times.
Strictly Come Dancing’s final airs tonight on BBC One at 7.05pm.
