Claudia Winkleman apologised to David James on Saturday night's Strictly Come Dancing after an awkward blunder with his mum.
The former footballer and professional partner Nadiya Bychkova were speaking to the presenter after performing their Jive.
When asked about his mistakes, David joked that he had not seen or felt any during the routine, which failed to impress the judges.
After Nadiya revealed that her celeb partner had been rehearsing for up to 12 hours a day, Claudia said: "We also have to mention your mum is in the audience."
Stern-faced David sarcastically thanked Claudia while pointing out his mum does not like being in the spotlight.
The former England goalkeeper said: "Yes, my mum that doesn't like cameras. And she's on the camera. Thanks for that. Hi mum."
Apologetic Claudia, who was left red-faced by the gaffe, quickly said: "Oh sorry, sorry."
Trying to change the subject, the Strictly host promptly moved on to the scores.
There wasn't much to get David smiling as he found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard this week.
David and Nadiya's Jive to 'Such a Night' by Michael Bublé received the low score of 16.
When Claudia admitted it was "quite disappointing after last week", gutted David simply replied: "Yeah."
There was a bizarre moment just minutes earlier when guest judge Alfons Ribeiro came out with a strange request for David.
Revealing he had watched his previous dances at home, Alfonso asked the former footballer to scream.
"Just let it all out," said Alfonso – and David duly obliged and let out a huge roar.
David is one of the favourites to leave the competition tonight after receiving a very low score from the judges.
After some harsh critique, Craig Revel Horwood gave David a 3 for his routine.
Who will be the fourth celebrity to leave the contest?
