Daytime TV icon Lorraine Kelly has opened up about being told by Strictly Come Dancing pro Anton Du Beke that she shouldn't bother taking part in the show as moves 'like a tree'.
Discussing the idea of appearing on the smash-hit BBC show with her guests today – comedian Paul Merton and his actress wife Suki Webster – the Scottish presenter, 62, revealed that the dancing star suggested jumping and jiving may not quite be her forte.
"Well, I would be so rubbish," she admitted when speaking about singing up for the BBC show. "That, I could never do in a million years."
"Oh really?" Suki questioned. "I thought everyone would just kill to do it. They dress you in sparkles and they teach you a good skill!"
A disagreeing Lorraine replied: "I know but I wouldn't be very good. If I get a few drinks down my neck, I'm not bad."
She then asked Paul whether taking part in celebrity talent shows would be something he could see himself doing.
Paul replied: "I've been asked to do The Masked Singer, but no, I don't think so, not for me. I've got a bit of arthritis in my hip from a broken leg but that's not the reason I couldn't do Strictly.
"I'm just one of those people who can't dance. I've been asked several times but no – "
As his wife Sumi chimed in with a smile: "- he dances like a wardrobe!"
Lorraine then went on to reveal that Anton had said something very similar about her while the pair were dancing together.
"That's so interesting because Anton Du Beke said the same thing about me," Lorraine laughed. "
It was during a break, he said 'I can teach anybody to dance', and he got me up and went, 'Oooh'.
She continued: "He actually said it's like dancing with a tree! Some people just can't do it!"
