BBC series Strictly Come Dancing will be beginning in earnest tonight (Saturday, September 21) at 7pm. This week’s episode is the first live show of the series with each of the 15 couples performing their routines. The launch show aired two weeks ago in which the stars found out their professional dancing partner.

The BBC released the list of songs and dances for Week One with each of the tracks usually a nod to each celebrity in some shape or form.

Each couple has been hard at work in the training room for the past two weeks after they found out what they were going to be performing.

The bookmakers have been speculating about who could be a contender to raise this year’s Glitterball Trophy with CBBC presenter and Sylvia Young Theatre School alumni Karim Zeroual already being touted as a frontrunner.

However, he will be facing competition from former footballer player Alex Scott, EastEnders actress Emma Barton and ex-Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher.

Is Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday this week?

The short answer is no because traditionally no one leaves in Week One of Strictly.

Sundays are reserved for the Strictly results show and because there won’t be an elimination this week, there won’t be a show tomorrow.

Even though no one is going to be leaving Strictly this week, each contestant will be awarded scores by the judges which will be put on a leaderboard.

The celebrities will all be back the following week to again dance for the judges.

They will all be given more scores which will be added on top of the ones from Week One.

Week Two will see the first public vote take place with the audience at home choosing their favourite couple.

The outcome of the public vote will be revealed the day after the main show (Saturday, September 28).

The first Strictly elimination and results show will be on Sunday, September 29 at 7.15pm.

Each elimination show confirms the couple in the bottom two, who will have to perform again in the dance-off.

The judges will then have to make their decision on who to keep and which couple to send home from the competition.

So next week Strictly Come Dancing will be airing on both Saturday and Sunday.

For now, all of the celebrity line-up is safe from the dreaded dance-off and the threat of elimination.

Strictly is going to be on our screens for the next three months and comes to a conclusion shortly before Christmas when one famous face will be raising the Glitterball Trophy.
