The third time really is the charm. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” has officially surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, THR reports.
It’s a huge milestone, made all the more impressive by fact that the flick is the first centered on the web-slinging hero to manage it. Neither Tobey Maguire’s “Spider-Man” or Andrew Garfield’s “Amazing Spider-Man” movies reached the magic number. That said, it’s not easy to make an apples-to-apples comparison between the three series. Between inflation and the advent of streaming, among other factors, times have changed at the box office since the Sony franchise launched in 2002.
One thing we know for sure is that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is in rare company. Just 40 films have hit $1 billion, per Box Office Mojo data. Of those, only “Far From Home” and 2012’s “Skyfall” come from Sony. There’s reason to celebrate, as the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” Twitter account has been doing in the form of Oprah GIFs.
