Simon Cowell has dropped decades as he walked the red carpet for last night’s America’s Got Talent quarter-finals with a new look after losing 20lbs following his recent health scare.
The 59-year-old was beaming – literally – as he showed off his bright white new nashers, complimenting his signature mahogany glow.
The music mogul was famously rushed to hospital in October 2017 after he passed out from low blood pressure. Since then he’s continued to make drastic changes to his lifestyle, cutting out all the naughty stuff – except cigarettes, obviously.
‘I went to see this guy who’s very well-known. And he said to me, after doing some blood work, “You can’t have red meat, dairy, sugar, bread or gluten”,’ the dad-of-one told Extra TV.
Simon recently teased he’s on the ‘Eric Cowell diet’, which is essentially vegan with one vice.
‘Apart from ice-cream, he actually likes water, eats all his raw vegetables,’ explained Simon.
The red carpet appearance came just before Simon was moved to tears when blind singer Kodi Lee performed a rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water for a chance to move through to the semi-finals next week.
Gabrielle Union’s Golden Buzzer act went viral with his rendition of Donny Hathaway’s A Song For You earlier this summer, and it appears the 22-year-old may receive a similar reaction with his latest offering.
His mother later admitted that to watch her son rise to glory had been ‘magical’ and that the family ‘never expected this to happen’.
‘This experience has been one of the most memorable and amazing events in our lives. To see the world embrace Kodi the way they have has been truly incredible,’ she enthused. ‘To see all the attention and love he’s getting from everyone makes him so happy. The first day I don’t think we stopped staring at his phone and “liking” everyone’s comments.’
Last week Simon got more than he bargained for when a dancer got a little too close to the judge, but Kodi is the firm favourite to win America’s Got Talent.
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays on NBC and streams on Netflix.
