Ricky Mitchell (Frankie Day) fed mum Sam (Kim Medcalf) the bitter truth after a baby scan in EastEnders, leaving her completely devastated ahead of her exit.
Young Ricky was already doubtful about becoming a parent, having got Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) pregnant last year, and a conversation with Sam in recent scenes left him even more concerned.
While enjoying lunch in the café, Sam struck up a conversation with Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton), which saw them discuss the struggles of parenting.
With Ricky already on edge over being late to the scan, he only became more distressed as Sam reminisced about life before Ricky, and pointed out that he would have a five-year-old before he would even be able to legally drink.
Panicked Ricky fled from the café, leaving Honey bewildered. Sam, however, was certain that Ricky didn’t want her at the scan.
While taking some time out, Ricky was approached by Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), who joked that she thought she was going to be the latest one to the scan.
Ricky was far from jovial when he insisted that he couldn’t be a dad, leaving Stacey to give him a pep talk.
He opened up about what Sam was like as a mum, and worried that he would turn out like her.
Stacey promised that they would all rally round to help out, and pointed out that it was too late to decide whether or not he wanted to be a dad, but instead had to decided whether or not to be a good one.
Following the scan, Ricky headed to Peggy’s for a chat with his mum, where he laid out some home truths.
As Ricky gushed about the scan, he turned the tables by admitting that he didn’t need Sam, and she could go off and enjoy life without a ‘moody teenager’ to spoil her fun.
Though Sam insisted that she hadn’t meant what she had said in the café, Ricky reiterated that he doesn’t need her, and never has done.
With Ricky having disowned Sam, and the character set to receive a job offer back in Spain, could she be set to leave her son, and Walford, behind?
