Drag Race royalty Baga Chipz, who made her television debut on the first season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, has opened up about an encounter with Queen Consort Camilla at a party. The bubbly drag performer also shared her thoughts on Queen Camilla.
Baga, whose real name is Leo Loren, exclusively spoke to Express.co.uk about Queen Elizabeth II’s death as well as what it was like to meet Queen Consort Camilla.
Baga has always been a fan of the Royal Family and even dressed as the late Queen on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK in 2019.
Reflecting on the monarch’s death, she said: “In the daytime, we heard the Queen wasn’t very well and that her family had gone to see her.”
She was told the news of the Queen’s death during the People’s Pet Awards which the monarch was a patron of.
Baga was sitting around a table with fellow celebrities including Dame Kelly Holmes when the staff announced the Queen had died at the age of 96 years old in Scotland.
“She was a patron for the charity event we were at, she loved animals, she loved dogs and horses,” Baga recalled.
“We all stood up and sang the national anthem and it was very surreal and sombre.
“But we enjoyed the night as she absolutely loved animals – 70 years is a long time to be Queen and she was also a working royal before she became the monarch. I just love a good Queen.”
Baga also said she met Queen Camila at a party hosted by former MP Gyles Brandreth.
She revealed: “I met her and she was really pleasant and she was asking about Drag Race.”
Baga admitted she was shocked when the royal asked her about the BBC Three reality series about the nation’s next drag superstar which recently aired its fourth season.
“She was absolutely lovely,” Baga added. “She was a lovely woman.”
Queen Camilla married King Charles in April 2005 in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall which was followed by an official blessing from the Archbishop of Canterbury at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
King Charles’ coronation is scheduled to take place on May 6, 2023, Buckingham Palace announced earlier this year.
It has not been confirmed whether his son Prince Harry will attend the service but Prince William and his family are set to be there.
While Baga is not part of the proceedings, she is attending Ru Paul’s Drag Con 2023 in London which is being held between January 6 and January 8.
Baga said of the event: “It’s held all over the world, they’ve had it in New York, but I did the first UK one, and we were at Kensington Olympia and we are getting bigger so it’s at the ExCeL London.
“It’s for all ages, it is for all walks of life and people who just want to express themselves or fans of the show and fans of drag.”
“In the past, I’ve had a fish and chip shop booth and a Pat Butcher living room with leopard skin,” she added.
