WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Power Book II: Ghost season three.
Until now, Power Book II: Ghost star Lauren (played by Paige Hurd) was assumed dead and everyone at Stansfield University believed she had passed away in a tragic car accident at the end of season two. But after three’s premiere night on Friday, fans are even more confused.
In a major blow to Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr), who was trying to keep Lauren safe, she clearly didn’t die, with the audience well and truly fooled.
Season three of the spin-off revealed that Lauren is very much alive and is being hidden in a safe house by prosecutor Jenny Sullivan (Paton Ashbrook).
Right at the end of the premiere episode, Lauren is seen asking Jenny “How much longer do I have to pretend that I’m dead?”.
Viewers are struggling to make sense of the ordeal as even off-screen, Paige posted on social media about her “exit” last year.
Now it’s clear the actor was trying to steer fans’ attention away from her character’s pending comeback story for season three.
“What a ride, what an honor. Thank y’all to those who rock with me always and those who turned on me lmao,” she wrote on Twitter at the time.
Show bosses clearly managed to trick most people as fans raced to social media after discovering Lauren wasn’t dead.

Paige has since revealed in a new interview that she struggled to keep it a secret after being told by producers she wasn’t really dead.
She read about her season two “death” in the script before being told she would be coming back for season three.
“I have no idea how I kept it because I’m not a good secret keeper,” she told Bustle.
Paige admitted avoiding social media altogether and detailed having to be “hidden every time she was outside” while shooting season three.
She told the outlet how she had to lie to fans who approached them on the street, explaining pretending to give the “inside scoop”.
“I’m so sorry I had to lie,” Hurd said.
“There was a lot of lying over the last year and a half, and, wow, it was hard.”
Power Book II: Ghost season 3 premiered on Lionsgate+ in the UK and Starz in the USA on Friday, March 17, 2023.
