The final instalment of Poldark will begin this weekend and fans will finally get the chance to see the conclusion of Ross Poldark (played by Aidan Turner) and Demelza’s (Eleanor Tomlinson) story.

Throughout the series, fans have also been gripped by the rivalry between Ross and George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) but season five could see the pair come together over the death of George’s wife Elizabeth (Heida Reed).

In the last episode of season four she suffered a tragic death after taking a dangerous concoction intended to induce labour.

Despite both men being in love with Elizabeth, Poldark star Jack has hinted the pair may reunite in the new series as they deal with her loss.

During an appearance on This Morning, George star Jack discussed the impact Elizabeth’s death will have on their relationship.

He said: “They share something obvious now, they both share the loss of her and I think you’re right it does really play in.

“I mean obviously there’s a lot of unresolved stuff between them that will never resolve, but there are scenes I shot with Aidan this series that feel different to anything we’ve ever shot before they definitely have a different flavour.”

Discussing the upcoming series, Holly Willoughby cheekily tried to get Jack to reveal what would be happening as the show airs its final scenes.

“Are you asking for the end of the series?” Phillip Schofield jokingly asked Holly to which she replied: “Yeah, what happens at the end?”

The Poldark star then reassured fans that they won’t be left with too many answered questions when season five comes to a close.

Laughing, Jack remarked: “No, obviously there’s stuff I can’t say, but definitely there are types of resolutions, there’s a satisfying climax to the stories of those characters.”

Meanwhile, Ross and Demelza may ending up splitting during the final series as Poldark star Aidan opened up on his character’s marriage.

Speaking about how Ross’ life has changed since the season four finale, Aidan began: “It’s moved on a considerable amount.

“He’s grown up a lot and has a better sense of responsibility,” he told the TV Times.

“He’s still impulsive and he has a natural attraction to menace, but I think all round he’s a better person. He’s certainly kinder to Demelza!”

The actor admitted their marriage is in a good place when the new series begins but there are still a number of obstacles the pair must overcome.

“For how long it lasts, I don’t know!” he said. “Ross spends a lot of time in London and Demelza is once again at the helm in Cornwall, so they spend a lot of time apart.

“It’s when Ross tries to carry the weight of the world by himself that things tend to go awry between them because he’s quite secretive.”

“But their dialogue is healthier now,” Aidan added cryptically.

Will Ross and Demelza last or will they finally be pushed apart for good?

Poldark season five returns Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
