Channel 4 will air Celebrity Gogglebox tonight (Friday, June 13), with Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse appearing alongside her two sisters. Phemelo Mitchell and Motsi Mabuse are not as familiar to UK viewers as Oti, but one of them is a famous ballroom dancer in her own right. Oti Mabuse’s sister appears on the German version of Strictly, Let’s Dance.
Are Oti Mabuse’s sisters dancers?
One of Oti Mabuse’s sisters is indeed a professional ballroom dancer, while one is an ex-dancer.
Oti’s older sister Motsi has been on the judges’ panel of Let’s Dance, the German equivalent of Strictly, since 2011.
Prior to that, she had been a professional dancer on the show for the previous two series.
Oti appeared alongside her sister on two series of Let’s Dance as a professional dancer in 2015 and 2016 before she joined Strictly.
HAS OTI MABUSE WON STRICTLY COME DANCING?
Oti was inspired to take up dancing by the example set by her sister, who is 10 years older than Oti.
She told the BBC: “My family plays a big part in my role as a dancer and my sister was my first trainer.
“She’s still my role model and inspiration until this day.
“She was my first trainer, she taught me my first steps.
WHEN DOES GOGGLEBOX START ON CHANNEL 4?
“I’ve literally only looked up to my family because we are so competitive as a family as well and they always aim to be the best.”
Oti Mabuse’s other sister Phemelo Mitchell once appeared as a dancer on the South African version of Strictly.
However, according to her LinkedIn profile, Phemelo is now a contracts engineer in Cape Town, South Africa.
Though the three sisters live in different countries most of the time, they are still very close.
WILL OTI MABUSE BECOME A JUDGE ON STRICTLY COME DANCING?
Recently, Oti posted an Instagram picture of her sister Phemelo’s graduation.
The caption read: “Sisters – the best friends for life. Congratulations to my older sister @Phemelom on her graduation from Stellenbosch University – woop woop – taking the world one book at a time, so proud of you achieving everything you want.
“Mom (sic) of two, sister and daughter, I love you and super proud of you.”
Celebrity Gogglebox, which will also star Little Mix, Rylan and Nick Grimshaw, is the first time the Mabuse sisters have appeared on UK TV together.
Celebrity Gogglebox starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
