Hulu's Normal People likely made you believe in love again—or, at least, remember the sex you had before quarantine—before promptly tearing your heart out. Luckily, there may be more to see of Marianne, Connell, and Connell's iconic chain.
According to director Richard Curtis (Love, Actually), who also serves as the cofounder of Ireland's RTÉ Does Comic Relief charity event, actors Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal will reprise their Normal People roles in two short installments by series director Lenny Abrahamson.
“I promise you, these are two very special bits,” Curtis told The Independent. “It’s so much better than anything we’ve ever made. I mean, I can’t even say all about it, because there’s a guest star in it. But it’s really, really beautiful.”
The two comedic short films will pick up 40 years in the future, starting on June 26. Yes, you read that right, Normal People is a comedy now
Unfortunately, there is a catch. Currently, the specials are set to air on RTÉ, meaning only viewers in Ireland and Northern Ireland will have access to watch live. There is no word on when we'll be able to catch up with our favorite Irish lovers here in the U.S.
Whether or not we get to see the continuation of novelist Sally Rooney's story, Hulu has officially picked up another series by the famed author. Conversations With Friends, Rooney’s first book, follows the scandalous story of two best friends and sometimes lovers, Frances and Bobbi, who become entangled with an older married couple. If you thought Normal People was sexy and filled with yearning, you haven't seen anything yet.
"Sally Rooney perfectly and beautifully captures the complicated dynamics of relationships in her stories," Beatrice Springborn, Hulu's VP of content, said in a statement, per People. "After bringing that to life in Normal People to an overwhelmingly positive response, we are honored to do the same with Conversations With Friends. We are excited to continue our creative partnership with Sally, Element Pictures, Lenny, and the BBC, which has been a dream collaboration."
Honestly, this series couldn't come soon enough.
