Oti Mabuse’s older sister Motsi will replace Darcey Bussell as the new Strictly Come Dancing judge, it has been confirmed.
Already a judge on the German version of the hit BBC show, Let’s Dance, she will take over from Darcey after she quit the show in April after seven years.
Motsi is a former champion in both South African and German Latin dancing, joining Let’s Dance as a judge in 2011.
However, Oti won’t find it too much of an issue being judged by her big sister, as she competed on the show for two series.
Motsi says: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly judging panel.
“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show. I can’t wait to get started!”
Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, says: “Motsi is a brilliant addition to the show. She is a wonderful dancer in her own right and already has years of experience as a judge under her belt. We’re all looking forward to welcoming her to the Strictly family.”
Sarah James, Executive Producer of Strictly, added: “I am incredibly excited that Motsi Mabuse is joining the show. Motsi's natural warmth, energy and passion for dance makes her the perfect addition to our esteemed judging panel.”
The Sun claims the remaining judges — Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli — were not consulted and were only told after the formal confirmation.
A source said: “Bosses were delighted with Motsi in her screen test and are confident she will become a household name like her younger sister.
“She’s got all the experience from doing Let’s Dance in Germany and is great in front of the camera.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One for its 17th series this autumn.
