Neighbours stars Lucinda Cowden and Lucinda Armstrong Hall have opened up on gruelling long filming days for the epic flashback week.

Their characters Melaine Pearson and Holly Hoyland are currently at the centre of a gripping storyline as their dark pasts intertwine and secrets are revealed. Mel returned to Ramsay Street in recent scenes after mysteriously Erinsborough with no explnation.

Melanie has since revealed to ex-husband Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney), his new wife Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou) and neighbour Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) that if they wanted to know the truth, they had to turn the clock back two years, to the day before her wedding to Toadie.

It was later revealed that both Melanie and Holly had crossed paths with Eden Shaw (Costa D'Angelo) and Krista Sinclair (Majella Davis) and fans will soon find out exactly what connects the two characters to the two newcomers.

Opening up about filming the scenes for flashback week, Holly actress Lucinda Armstrong Hall revealed: "It was a lot. We filmed those scenes for three days in the Willis house, like 12 hour days just in there. By the end of it we were like 'can't wait to get out of these outfits'. For me it was great to work with such iconic characters like Toadie, Terese, Susan and Mel. It was incredible to watch them all work. It was really nice to bounce off each other."

Lucinda Cowden, who has played Melaine on and off since 1987, added: "They were really long days. I had so many words to remember, my brain was exploding. Our job was to bring it off the page and it was fantastic. It's an incredible reveal that she's been hiding this stuff for so long.

"It kind of explains who Mel is and it's great to see her stripped away without all of the dresses and the makeup and hair, just to see her as this woman who's tried to protect the people who she loves and has ended up with nothing."
