It’s nearly time for the moment we’ve all been waiting for – the release of the John Lewis 2021 advert.
Their upcoming Christmas advert, named Unexpected Guest, stars singer and songwriter Lola Young.
In it the 20-year-old rising star sings a cover of Together in Electric Dreams, originally released by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder in 1984.
Lola joins a list of superstars, including Ellie Goulding, Lily Allen and Tom Odell, who have had their songs featured on the department store’s annual Christmas advert.
Brits can look forward to a two-minute tale of a young alien experiencing their first Christmas on Earth, complete with mince pies and novelty jumpers.
Who is Lola Young?
Lola Young is a singer songwriter who grew up in south London, and started writing songs aged 11.
By the age of 13 she had competed in and won a national open mic competition, with inspirations such as Joni Mitchell and Prince.
Lola went on to attend the Brit School in London, which boasts famous alumni including Adele, Amy Winehouse, Raye and Loyle Carner.
According to Paradigm Talent Agency, Lola has “all the potential, spirit and individuality to become the UK’s next biggest talent”.
In her short career, she has managed to secure a record deal with Island Records, owned by Universal Music Group and the home to Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj.
Part of her achievements include the release of the single Woman, her debut seven-track release titled Intro and the Renaissance EP.
Since the middle of last year she has been in the studio working with superproducer Paul Epworth, who has worked with artists include Adele, Florence + the Machine and Rihanna.
Lola is working on releasing a new collection of tracks scheduled for this year.
For those who want to see Lola live in action, she has a number of live shows scheduled for November and December, including in Dublin, London, Liverpool and Manchester, Amsterdam and Berlin.
Speaking about music, she told Paradigm Talent Agency: "It’s been a part of my life since I had my first memory.
"And I’ve been singing since I could talk. Not that I was a good singer then. I really had to learn, practice, get lessons and teach myself.
"Hard work was involved when it came to me learning how to sing. People might say, ‘It sounds like you were born with that voice.’ It was not the case at all."
