As reports of sexual violence have dramatically increased in recent years, the US government has urged colleges to enforce a stricter code of sexual conduct amongst students.

At a time of rising scrutiny about what constitutes sexual assault, Louis Theroux heads to American college campuses and comes face-to-face with students accused of such crimes, as well as those who have been the victims of them.

He will chat to Saifullah Khan – the 25-year-old who was accused of raping a fellow Yale University student on Halloween in 2015.

What has Louis Theroux said about the documentary?

Speaking about why he decided to deal with the issue of sexual consent in US colleges, Louis told refinery29.com: "I was living in America at the time, and I was reading a lot about it in the American context."

"On issues of extreme sensitivity, often involving allegations of sexual misconduct, as a production we tend to be able to go further in America.

"I don’t know if it’s because we’re lower profile or whether people in America just feel 'well, it’s only British TV, it doesn’t really matter'.

"I was more confident in being able to get the access we needed over there."
