ITV NEWS has paid a poignant tribute to their late co-star after his tragic death.

Neil Billingham, the editor of the broadcaster's regional news service Lookaround, has died.

The journalist, who was described as a "treasured" part of the team, was just 51.

His funeral was held on Monday, November 6th with ITV News marking his passing with a touching on-air tribute.

As Mary Nightingale closed the Evening News yesterday, a graphic appeared on screen.

It simply read: "In memory of Neil Billingham, 1972 – 2023."

Neil's ITV colleagues then paid tribute to him following the bulletin being dedicated to him.

The station's Royal editor Chris Ship said: "Thoughts with his family and all his friends and colleagues at ITV Border and ITV News Tyne Tees."

Presenter Emily Reader said: "A sad day, for a wonderful man. Rest in peace Neil."

ITV Central's Lewis Warner wrote: "I've just seen this and it's made me cry for what feels like the 100th time today.

While Gregory Hoare, who hosts the news on ITV Border commented: "A proper gesture, for a wonderful man."

A spokesperson for ITV News said: "The team across the ITV Border patch has been touched by the messages of sympathy sent by those who knew Neil.

"Neil will be greatly missed by our entire team. We send all our love and support to his family and friends."
