Two years after the record-breaking horror It was set loose on cinemas and now the conclusive follow-up It: Chapter Two is almost here. Set 27 years later, the Losers Club are all grown up and return to Derry once more to defeat Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The first reactions are in which mostly praise the movie, especially Bill Hader’s performance – but admit it’s probably too long. Here are some of the highlights.

Slash Film
It Chapter Two is probably scarier than Chapter One – more Pennywise imagery to haunt your dreams. But it also loses a lot of charm in the shift in focus from the coming of age to the now adult characters. At nearly 3 hours it feels long.

JoBlo
Really enjoyed It Chapter Two which serves as the perfect bookend to Chapter One. Some great shocks and scares with the young and old cast. Bill Hader absolutely steals the movie, which balances heartfelt emotion with creepy jump scares galore.

Cinema Blend
So, It Chapter Two: It’s very good, but not great. I liked it, but didn’t LOVE it. First movie is a tough act to follow. TWO is gruesome, strange but rarely scary. Nails important aspects from the book, but feels overlong. Cast is aces, though and Bill Hader SHOULD be in Oscar convo.

Fandango
It Chapter Two is a terrific companion to It Chapter One. Similar vibes, great ensemble chemistry with a nice mix of humour and horror. Part 2 plays heavier in tone, dealing with defeating the burden of childhood trauma, and I definitely teared up at the very end. Bill Hader steals it

Collider
It Chapter Two is awesome. The adult cast is perfect and loved the way the film mixes in the old and new. I don’t want to say too much because most of you are going to see it. Congrats to everyone that worked on it for a job well done.

Moviefone
It Chapter Two is a giant budget, studio-backed horror movie that’s also a fairly serious actors showcase/ensemble, with occasional flashes of brilliant imagery (like all the balloons cascading under the bridge). It’ll make more money than Warner Bros knows what to do with.

Uproxx
For the most part I liked It: Chapter Two. First half (of this pretty long movie!) is great. And the new adult cast is stellar. Second half isn’t as tight. And overall Chapter Two isn’t as tight as the first movie.

Geeks of Colour
Saw It: Chapter Two last week! It definitely lives up to the hype of the first one by delivering memorable scares and incredible visuals. The adult losers club’s chemistry was amazing. It’s scary af.

We Live Entertainment
It: Chapter Two is the biggest disappointment of the year. A dull & bloated mess that spends too much time rehashing things from the first film. While there are a few good moments, the film ultimately lacks suspense and scares. The performances are also a mixed bag

It: Chapter Two is released in UK cinemas on September 6, 2019.
