Is Jack dead on Virgin River?

  • WARNING Contains spoilers from Virgin River season two

Season two of Virgin River finished on a major cliffhanger, because after Mel and Jack FINALLY agreed to make it work, he was shot.

We didn't see the shooter, we just saw Mel discover him dying on the floor.

But the former marine-turned bar owner is featured in the season three trailer, so it looks like he's made it through.

However viewers are still left with the question – who shot him?

Jack has had trouble with drug lords, after he helped his friend Brady flee from them.

But actor Martin Henderson, who plays Jack, lifted the lid on who he thinks the culprit is.

As viewers already know, Jack is currently stuck in a love triangle with Mel and former lover Charmaine, who is pregnant with his child.

But because the restaurant owner decided to finally make it work with the nurse practitioner, it makes perfect sense that he thinks his baby mama is the person who shot Jack.

Martin told TVLine in December 2020 "[It's a] nice, dramatic end to a season that leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

"If we haven't done it with our performances up to that point, hopefully [this mystery] will go some ways to keep people tuned in for season 3.

"Who on Earth would have done that? By the end of the season, there are a few candidates.

"I always joke that it’s most likely Charmaine. It does pop into your mind!"

Showrunner Sue Tenney told Radio Times that the storyline will follow that of the book series by Robyn Carr, so if you've read them you'll know what happens.

What will happen in Virgin River season three?

Well judging by that cliffhanger, there is loads we can expect from a third series – the first will be to find out who shot Jack.

Sue confirmed to US Weekly that the shooting was "a big part of the season".

Sue said: "His friend Mike (Marco Grazzzini) ends up staying in town and he’s trying to investigate and find out who the shooter is, while also trying to keep Jack from taking the law into his own hands."

Season three will also see Jack's twins being born, and this could put a serious strain on his relationship with Mel – as we all know Charmaine will make her presence known in their lives.

Doc's fate will also be revealed, as it looks like he could be seriously ill.
