Fans can look forward to a season of gobsmacking returns, murder and ruthless revelations as Hollyoaks kicks off its winter season.

As well as mistletoe, snow and snogging, Chester is set to be full bloody rows and cold, dark revenge. Well, and an explosion or two.

The Channel 4 soap has finally released its winter trailer and it looks even more explosive than ever, chock-a-block full of action, passion and brutal betrayals.

In the mix is John Paul's return as he comes face to face with his rapist, Finn O'Connor, Mercedes' shooter exposed, a flash-forward episode, Warren's return, Liberty and Brody's betrayal and killer Breda acting like the maniacal psychopath we all know and don't love.

The trailer opens up with Mercedes waking up from her coma and saying she knows how shot her.

There are seven suspects, all of whom have some big motives. But who was it and what was their real reason for pulling the trigger?

Breda's big exit is also teased and is as explosive as you'd imagine for the village's secret serial killer.

Trapped Tony is finally found by Mercedes, but Breda is also seen with a manic grin planted on her face as she holds a pitchfork.

If that weren't enough, she appears to set the place she is holding Tony on fire.

Will he be able to escape? Breda's final gruesome scenes will be shown in a one-off Hollyoaks Later episode, so you can expect it will be pretty grisly…

A glimpse of the flash-forward episode was also shown, which will give viewers a look a year into the future.

Juliet and Sid are seen getting close but a snippet of the episode, set in 2020, shows Juliet confessing her love for someone. Is she speaking to him?

Meanwhile Warren returns with Sienna's babies Sebastian and Sophie in tow.

Is a reunion on the cards?
