Katy is no stranger to soaps, being married to former Corrie actor Adam Rickitt, who previously played Nick Tilsley on the cobbles.
Speaking on Thursday's Good Morning Britain, Katy beamed at her bagging of the role, joking she thought she would be involved in something like a fire.
But she admitted that the GCSEs were "more fitting", adding that it is her "favourite day", after hosting the segment every year since she joined in 2014.
Fellow co-host Kate Garraway offered her support for her colleague, saying on Thursday's edition of GMB: "You do it so well!".
Katy added that she had been a "lifelong fan" of the show "from bingeing the omnibus with my university friends to proudly following my husband Adam in his role as Kyle Kelly.
"It was an absolute honour to be asked to do a cameo for the soap!"
She also said it was a great opportunity to play herself on the show, adding that it "brought a smile to my face" when she was asked to make an appearance.
Rickitt said that her day on the set of the show was "amazing", admitting that the entire set of the soap immerses the actors in the storylines.
The journalist also gave praise to the production on the show, saying it was "incredible witnessing such a large and smooth operation".
She joked that other GMB presenters are called in to report on what goes on in Hollyoaks, adding "we know how many newsworthy events happen there!".
