Holly Willoughby was astounded by the news Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds welcomed a baby boy today.

The Prime Minister’s fiancée announced she was expecting their first child on February 29 while also confirming their engagement.

And this morning, the couple announced that just over two weeks after Boris was released from intensive care with coronavirus, their baby boy has been welcomed into the world.

But the sudden announcement came as a huge shock for Holly.

‘What breaking news am I being told?’ Phil asked, kicking off today’s This Morning holding onto his earpiece. ‘Boris Johnson has just announced the birth of a baby boy.’

‘Oh my gosh!’ Holly gasped. ‘I didn’t realise she was that far along.

‘She must have been further along when she announced it. Is that definitely right?’

‘Well that is lovely news,’ she continued. ‘Wow, what a time they’re having as a family.

‘We’re all going through it but they’re going through with bells on.’

A spokeswoman for the Prime Minister and his partner said both mother and baby are ‘doing very well’ after the birth in a London hospital on Wednesday morning.

They said: ‘The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well.

‘The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.’

It’s unclear if Johnson will take 10 days off for paternity leave but Dominic Raab, who stood in for for the PM while he battled Covid-19, will face Labour Leader Keir Starmer in today’s Prime Minister Questions.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
