Clinical Lead for AAU, Serena Campbell actress Catherine Russell has confirmed that she will be leaving the medical drama in 2020, following seven years of service at the Wyvern hospital.
Serena has been popular among fans since her first appearance in 2012 but won the hearts of many when she struck up a romance with trauma surgeon, Bernie Wolfe.
Fans have also seen the former Medical Director of Holby City Hospital has also seen her share of heartbreak after her daughter Elinor sadly passed away.
In 2015, Catherine was nominated for Best Actress at the TV Choice Awards.

Speaking about her departure, Catherine said: " Playing Serena Campbell and being part of the Holby family has been an absolute delight.
"I just need to get out there, frighten myself again and pretend to be someone else. But you never know, hopefully, I’ll be able to revisit the hospital as it really is the most wonderful place to work!"
Executive producer for Holby City and Casualty, Simon Harper said: "Yes it’s true, the brilliant Catherine Russell is leaving the show. She’s truly one of the Holby greats, her mercurial portrayal of the unique, drily witty and passionate Serena literally lighting up the screen."

He went on to add: " We are all very sad to say goodbye to her – but it’s no surprise such a talented actor should want to go and play other roles again after seven outstanding years.
"Catherine, we wish you all the best, while raising a bucket of shiraz to the glory that is Ms Campbell – and I just can’t thank you enough."
Fans can expect to see Serena's final episodes at the hospital full of drama and unexpected events.

They will also see a steely side of the consultant when a dark reminder from the past appears.
Dedicated fans of the show took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one saying: "Catherine, thank you for this thoughtful video. I've watched brilliant Holby from the start and you have brought huge talent and class to it."
While a second, added: "So talented, so likeable, so classy, good luck for the future Catherine and thanks for an amazing portrayal of fabulous Serena."
