The creator of Gilmore Girls knew the final four words she wanted to end with, but there was a long wait for them to be revealed. Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore, explained why she loved the last scene even if it left fans wanting more.
The final 4 words of ‘Gilmore Girls were planned
Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino made it known that she knew what the final four words would be and fans didn’t get them because she left the show. She talked about keeping those words to herself in hopes she could return.
“I was also holding on to it for a long time because I was thinking if we did do a movie, I would be able to use it there,” Sherman-Palladino told Vulture. “I don’t think that’s ever going to happen so, I don’t know. Maybe I’ll eventually say the four words. I feel like now I’ll let people down because it’s been so built up. ‘Really? That’s what we waited all these twelve years for? Well, thanks so much.’”
The good news is that four more episodes did happen. Fans finally found out what the show creator had planned.
The last four words were a mic drop
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life showed Rory struggling with her career years after graduating college. She was also still hooking up with Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry) despite him being in a relationship with someone else.
She also dates a guy named Paul (Jack Carpenter), but they were rarely together and she kept forgetting about him. Rory also hooks up with an unseen Star Wars fan.
The revival ends with Lorelai and Rory talking. “Mom?” Rory says. ” Yeah?” Lorelai replies. “I’m pregnant,” Rory reveals.
We’re not told who’s the father, and it’s not confirmed what Rory plans to do. She did confront her father, Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe), to see how he feels about Lorelai raising Rory mostly without him. She seems to be thinking about taking on motherhood by herself.
Lauren Graham loved the ending leads to different possibilities
The final four words shocked some fans and got mixed reactions. Graham revealed her reaction to Rory was filmed multiple times.
“The reaction I gave I would say a 50-50 mix of surprise and total joy,” she said on On Air With Ryan Seacrest. Some fans might be frustrated by the ending not giving them complete closure.
But the actor loves that. “I love the idea that even if you’re frustrated, your imagination can take over,” she said.
Fans have certainly used their imagination to imagine what happens next. The popular theory is Logan is the father of the baby. This isn’t just because they slept together. It’s partially because Logan is very similar to Christopher.
They’re both rich and set on a specific path because of their parents. But like Lorelai, Rory has her own plans. She might want to do this on her own.
