Jane Moore says Paul O’Grady ‘should have been taking it easy’ when she was detailing how much he loved work
ITV decided to pull The Chase from its usual five o’clock slot in the schedule and replaced it with the Royal special of Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs which first aired last year. The episode was played in tribute to Paul who died on Tuesday, March 28, leaving viewers of the series devastated and in tears.
ITV aired the special For the Love of Dogs episode which featured Camilla, The Queen Consort as they celebrated 160 years of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, for which the star was an ambassador.
The episode saw Camilla join Paul at the celebrations for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and bond over their love of animals.
With the nation still mourning the death of the legendary TV presenter and comedian, many took to their Twitter accounts to express their heartbreak.
@totallyangel_xo penned: “Watching #fortheloveofdogs on itv. RIP Paul O’Grady. You will be missed.”
Caroline Aylott commented: “What a watch, what a heartwarming & heartbreaking watch. I was in tears #PaulOGrady #Fortheloveofdogs.”
@JoviGirl_1980 added: “#fortheloveofdogs always made me cry…but god, my heart aches watching it today #PaulOGrady.”
@LLLioness1973 exclaimed: “Just watched a special #ForTheLoveOfDogs with Paul and the Queen Consort at Battersea dogs home in floods of tears.
“What a amazing beautiful soul Paul was. Ohhhh how we are going to miss you Paul with your sense of humour and love of animals #PaulOGrady.” (sic)

Following the announcement of Paul’s passing from his husband Andrea Portasio, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo issued a statement.

He said: “We are fortunate to have had a long association with Paul, at ITV. He was a huge, inimitable talent.
“Delighting our viewers through his comedy and entertainment with a warmth, humour and joy that audiences of all generations related to and connected with.
“He had a profound passion for animals too, which resonated with so many viewers, and For The Love of Dogs remains one of our best-loved series and a really special programme for so many.”
The Queen Consort also paid her respects to the news with The Royal Family’s official Twitter account posting an image of Camilla with the star.
It read: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Paul O’Grady, who worked closely with Her Majesty in support of @Battersea_, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.” (sic)
