Emmerdale fans were left in tears when Faith Dingle (played by Sally Dexter) died peacefully beside Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) after deciding she wanted to end her life while battling a terminal illness. The heartbreaking scenes were superbly acted but Sally revealed to Express.co.uk that filming her final moments in a haunted house didn’t quite go to plan.

Faith died with Cain by her side after the mother-and-son mended their turbulent relationship.

However, Faith’s daughter Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) was nowhere to be seen.

Emmerdale fans know Chas was spending the night with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) in a hotel and returned the next day to discover her mother had already died.

A heartbreaking scene followed as Chas went into the room Faith was lying in to say her goodbyes.

Speaking to Express.co.uk at the Inside Soap Awards, Sally revealed production had to be halted twice over some unusual activity.

Sally began: “I’ll tell you an odd thing that happened when Chas first came in to find me dead.

“She went and she knocked on the door but she couldn’t come in.

“When we were filming that she knocked on the door once and there was an answering knock.”

“Now we were filming this in a house which was meant to be haunted,” she continued.

“So this happened twice and I was dead. But I was kind of sinking off into the sort of subconsciousness when she did that and when I heard the answering knock, I wanted to say, ‘Come in’ but it would have ruined the whole thing.

“Anyway, we had to stop and start again twice and afterwards Lucy said, ‘Did anybody else hear that?’

“And we all said, ‘Yes’. It was most extraordinary. Take from that what you will.”

Meanwhile, Faith star Sally spoke out on King Charles’ surprise video to the Emmerdale cast.

He stunned the stars with a video praising the award-winning soap at the National Television Awards.

Sally revealed the message was “wonderful to hear” before praising the new King.

She said: “[He] seems to be turning out pretty damn good, saying all the right things.”

In the special clip, Charles said: “I’m delighted to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Emmerdale and I’m afraid I’m so old I can remember when it was called Emmerdale farm owned by the Sugdens.

“It is a testament to the hard work of its production team that it has since become such an important British institution and a major British export with hundreds of thousands of fans from Scandinavia to New Zealand.”

“What makes Emmerdale so special is that it has kept true to the vision of its writer Kevin Laffan who wanted to demonstrate that farming is not just a job, it’s a whole way of life.

“On a daily basis, Emmerdale continues to depict what life is really like for those who work the land and protect our precious countryside.”

“It also stresses brilliantly something that concerns me greatly: the long-term sustainability of the way we produce our food,” he continued.

“So it is only right that the National Television Awards acknowledge the enormous contribution Emmerdale has made and I hope those watching will join me in sending a warmest congratulations on its 50th anniversary.

“And wishing it an equally successful future.”
