Emmerdale fans’ theories that Caleb Milligan (William Ash) is harbouring a dark secret have seemingly been confirmed, with the newcomer up to no good where Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is concerned.
Caleb rocked up in the eponymous village last year, revealing himself to be Cain and Chas’ (Lucy Pargeter) long-lost sibling, who Cain disowned decades ago, ordering him to stay away.
Despite Cain’s demands, Caleb was keen to get to know his loved ones, and he wasted little time in proving himself worthy, assisting in getting Cain out of prison and putting top-notch lawyers on Kyle Winchester’s (Huey Quinn) case.
The newcomer seemed, for lack of a better expression, like the perfect long-lost sibling, so much so that the entire Dingle clan have welcomed him with open arms – except Cain, that is, who had reservations about why his brother has showed up after all this time.
Was Cain being unfair?
It certainly seemed that way at first, especially given it was he who robbed Caleb off a life with his mum Faith (Sally Dexter).
A huge new twist, however, has suggested that Cain was just right to keep Caleb at arm’s length, with Thursday’s (February 2) edition of the serial drama revealing that the suave and sophisticated businessman is actually out to destroy his big brother.
The outing in question saw Cain let his guard down, determined to not to let his past dictate his present and to learn from where he’s gone wrong previously.
The mechanic’s change of heart was a direct result of some advice from Charity (Emma Atkins), who was rocked by the news of rapist Mark Bails’ death in prison.
Caleb was taken aback by Cain’s desire to bury the hatchet, and the two siblings enjoyed as pint and a game of darts in the Woolpack. What’s more, Cain even gave Caleb his blessing to spend some time with Kyle.
A new brotherly bond forming? It seemed so – until the episode’s concluding moments revealed that Caleb has a plan to take Cain down. What’s more, he’s cahoots with a mysterious other, as he made a phone call following the day’s surprising events.
‘We’re finally making headway’, he said to the unknown person on the other end of the call. ‘We keep reeling him in until we get exactly what we want.’

The question is: just what is Caleb up to? What is it that he and this accomplice want? Could the newcomer perhaps be an undercover cop, out to gain Cain’s trust before obliterating him to smithereens?
Or is there something else at play here? Is he even Cain and Chas’ brother? Only time will tell, and you’ll just have to keep tuning in to find out!
Emmerdale continues Friday February 3 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
